# Data Subject

A data subject is an individual whose [PII](https://docs.assenteo.com/dictionary/pii) is processed by a company (who is a [Controller](https://docs.assenteo.com/dictionary/data-controller) or [Processor](https://docs.assenteo.com/dictionary/data-processor)).
